In recent years, scholars, civil society actors, human rights defenders and practitioners have paid attention to the rise of archival activism, which describes \u2018activities in which archivists act to deploy their archival collections to support activist groups and social justice aims\u2019 (Flinn and Alexander 2015, 331). At the same time, scholars recognise the potentiality and importance of information practice in advancing social changes (Watson 2010; Cooper 2016; Bastian and Flinn 2020). These observations are backed by the fact that, in many countries, citizens and civil society organisations became active netizens in \u2018decentralised\u2019 protest actions and information dissemination in digital platforms as ways of resisting authoritarian rules or promoting liberal democratic reforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Protecting the right of access to information to foster transparent governance and free and open societies is of paramount importance nowadays. However, authoritarian governments are now learning to enhance their political control by blocking access to information and eliminating official records in a comprehensive way. Many records of human rights violations, torture and unfair trials have been removed from the public sight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Against this background, RIL aims to develop initiatives to work with global civil society to archive human rights records and documentation comprehensively and securely for public access. This is a timely and meaningful initiative for civil society actors and human rights defenders to continue preserving the collective history and memory of repressive regimes in various creative ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Today, the digital landscape has undergone a transformative shift, giving rise to revolutionary technologies that have the potential to reshape the way we interact with the internet and protect our fundamental rights. Two buzzwords that have been making waves in the tech world are \u201cblockchain\u201d and \u201cWeb3.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At its core, blockchain is a decentralised and distributed digital ledger technology that securely records transactions across multiple computers. Unlike traditional centralised systems, where a single entity holds control, blockchain operates on a network of nodes, ensuring transparency, immutability, and enhanced security. Each block in a blockchain contains a cryptographic hash of the previous block, creating a chain of blocks\u2014hence the name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The decentralised nature of blockchain technology means that it is not owned or controlled by any central authority. This characteristic eliminates the risk of censorship, manipulation, or unauthorised alteration of data. In essence, blockchain acts as a digital notary, providing a tamper-proof record of transactions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u8fd1\u5e74\u4f86\uff0c\u5b78\u8005\u3001\u516c\u6c11\u793e\u6703\u6d3b\u52d5\u5bb6\u3001\u4eba\u6b0a\u634d\u885b\u8005\u548c\u5f9e\u696d\u8005\u95dc\u6ce8\u5230\u6a94\u6848\u884c\u52d5\u4e3b\u7fa9\u7684\u8208\u8d77\uff0c\u9019\u63cf\u8ff0\u4e86\u201c\u6a94\u6848\u9928\u54e1\u63a1\u53d6\u884c\u52d5\uff0c\u5229\u7528\u5176\u6a94\u6848\u9928\u85cf\u652f\u6301\u6d3b\u52d5\u5718\u9ad4\u548c\u793e\u6703\u6b63\u7fa9\u76ee\u6a19\u7684\u6d3b\u52d5\u201d\uff08Flinn\u548cAlexander 2015\uff0c331\uff09\u3002\u8207\u6b64\u540c\u6642\uff0c\u5b78\u8005\u5011\u8a8d\u8b58\u5230\u4fe1\u606f\u5be6\u8e10\u5728\u63a8\u52d5\u793e\u6703\u8b8a\u9769\u65b9\u9762\u7684\u6f5b\u529b\u548c\u91cd\u8981\u6027\uff08Watson 2010\uff1bCooper 2016\uff1bBastian\u548cFlinn 2020\uff09\u3002\u9019\u4e9b\u89c0\u5bdf\u5f97\u5230\u4e86\u652f\u6301\uff0c\u56e0\u70ba\u5728\u8a31\u591a\u570b\u5bb6\uff0c\u516c\u6c11\u548c\u516c\u6c11\u793e\u6703\u7d44\u7e54\u6210\u70ba\u4e86\u5728\u6578\u78bc\u5e73\u53f0\u4e0a\u9032\u884c\u201c\u53bb\u4e2d\u5fc3\u5316\u201d\u6297\u8b70\u884c\u52d5\u548c\u4fe1\u606f\u50b3\u64ad\u7684\u7a4d\u6975\u7db2\u6c11\uff0c\u4f5c\u70ba\u5c0d\u6297\u5a01\u6b0a\u7d71\u6cbb\u6216\u63a8\u52d5\u81ea\u7531\u6c11\u4e3b\u6539\u9769\u7684\u65b9\u5f0f\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n
